Town ‘N Kountry Kids 4-H Club Red Crew

The Town ‘N Kountry Kids 4-H Club Red Crew met on June 1 at the 4-H Building in Forestburg.
The meeting was called to order by President Jonathan Linke. The Flag Pledge was led by Evan Ohlrogge and the 4-H pledge was led by Collin Schmiedt. Corrie Snedeker led roll call with 14 members answering the question, “What is your favorite summer activity?” The secretary’s report was read by Rex Schlicht and approved as presented. The treasurer’s report was given by Elliott Ohlrogge and approved as presented.
Giving reports on different activities were Nathan Linke on livestock judging school, Shaun Snedeker on the consumer decision making judging school, Aaron Linke and Elliott on State 4-H Shoot, Morgan Schmiedt on poppies, Rex on barrels and Riley Schmiedt and Corrie on the Farm Safety Day.
All those who went on the Mystery Trip (Riley, Shaun, Aaron and Nathan) talked about the trip they went on and the pleasant surprises. The last report was given on the phonathon by Elliott.
Health and Safety Officer Riley tied his talk about ATV safety into his lesson for the day.
The next item on the agenda was new business. Jonathan led discussion on tree decorating options at the nursing home.
Next, Leader Paula Linke talked about a possible donation the club could give to the Woonsocket Community Center. The club decided to give the Community Center $100.
The next item of business was the Cloverbud project day coming up on June 4. Consumer Decision Making Judging is scheduled for June 4 as well.
Dairy Month is in June, so the club talked about the different things the members could do to promote it. It was decided to hand out cheese sticks with different dairy facts on them at the Woonsocket vs. Artesian/Letcher baseball games on June 13.
A sheep and goat clinic is going to be held on June 6 in Wessington Springs. There is a Special Foods workshop on June 21 and the Special Foods Contest is going to be held July 8. Miner County will be having several Livestock Judging Schools in June.
Paula talked about the different changes that are going to be taking place with Achievement Days to include having the Poultry and Rabbit judging on Friday night. She also asked members to think about theme ideas.
The club then committed to setting barrels for the State Barrel Finals on Memorial Day 2014 and also at the barrel races in October that Della runs. Club members discussed scheduling a fun trip that may include a trip to SDSU for rock climbing.
Following the meeting, members signed “summer” cards for their elderly friends and enjoyed SDSU ice cream served by the Linke family.
The next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 29 at 9:30 a.m. at the 4-H Building.
