On Monday, Oct. 5, volunteers from the Artesian Fire Department visited students in preschool, kindergarten and first grade at Sanborn Central Elementary in honor of Fire Safety Week, which was Oct. 4-9.
Firefighters shared what to do in case of a fire. Kaci Bechen gave the “safety” talk while Ryan Bechen, Travis King and Michael Morgan showed special tools and gear used for fighting fires. The students also learned how to be fire smart.
The firefighters surprised the students by allowing them to squirt the hose, jump in the fire truck and turn on the siren. The students are still talking about the firefighters’ visit!
Students also learned that even though a fireman may look a bit scary with all of his gear, they are not to be feared.
Members of the Woonsocket Fire Department also made a visit to elementary classes at the Woonsocket School for Fire Safety Week on Thursday, Oct. 8.
