Albert “Al” Foos, 83, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Feb. 29 at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket.  Burial was in the Eventide Cemetery with military rites by the Woonsocket American Legion. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 28, from 2-6 p.m. at the church with a rosary service at 5:30 p.m., followed by a scripture service.
Albert I. Foos was born on Aug. 3, 1932, in Miner County, to Goldie and Henry Foos. The family moved to the Woonsocket area, where they farmed. Al graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1952, having been the senior class president.
From 1952-1956, Al was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, serving as an airplane mechanic for the U.S. Air Force. His time in the service included tours overseas.
Upon leaving the service, Al moved to Belle Fourche, where he quickly met Shirley Stephens. The two were married on Nov. 18, 1956, and moved back to the Woonsocket area. Here they would remain the rest of their days.
Al had a number of jobs throughout his life, but much of his time was spent being the owner and operator of Al’s Standard Service (later Amoco), which he ran for over 30 years. While operating the station, Al also farmed and worked as a rural mail carrier for the Postal Service.  After selling the farm and the station, Al worked full-time as a mail carrier, retiring in 1997.
Al spent his retirement golfing, fishing, camping with Shirley, growing a huge garden, and kicking everybody’s tail at cards. He will be remembered for his big fish stories, his gentle presence, and his genuine love for family and community.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, Goldie and Henry; sister, Betty Jean; daughter, Glenis; and wife, Shirley.
Al is survived by his sister, Dorthy; sons, Trent (Renee) Foos, Tim (Linda) Foos, and Jim (Cathy) Foos; two granddaughters; five grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
