Raymond Lang, 93, of Mitchell, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Firesteel Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were Tuesday, June 21 at Northridge Baptist Church in Mitchell with burial in Servicemen’s Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, June 20 from 6-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Raymond O. Lang was born May 18, 1923, to Theodore and Martha Lang. He attended country grade school and graduated from Emery High School. During World War II, Ray served in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and received the Good Conduct Medal as a technician with the 4th Gr. HQ Batter, 752nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion.
On Jan. 14, 1947, he married Julia Mehlhaff. He spent many years farming and worked for the South Dakota State Highway Department, the Alexandria School System, Moorman’s Feed, and managed two apartment complexes in Sioux Falls before retiring in 2006. He was a member of Plum Creek Baptist Church of rural Emery, First Baptist Church in Emery and Trinity Baptist Church in Sioux Falls.
Raymond is survived by Julie, his wife of 69 years; two daughters, Sandy (Ron) Norman of Sycamore, Ill., and Jennifer (Bill) Hoff of Mt. Vernon; three sons, Daniel (Teddi) Lang of Letcher, Kevin (Bobbi) Lang of Emery, and Gregg (Shelli) Lang of Alexandria; a sister, Evelyn (Bert) Itterman of Sioux Falls; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials can be designated to Northridge Baptist Church for the building fund.
