Lyle T. Newman, 87, Huron, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Avera McKennan Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Visitation was Sunday evening, June 26, at Huron Christian Church, Huron, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Funeral services were 3 p.m., Monday, June 27, also at Huron Christian Church. Graveside Services were 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, at the Bonney Cemetery, rural Forestburg.
Lyle was born on the family farm in rural Sanborn County, south of Cavour on Aug. 18, 1928, to Thomas and Agnes (Rhoads) Newman. He was raised there, attending country school through the eighth grade. After his father died, he took over the family farm, where he spent his life working.
He married Anna Mae Miller in 1951. Together they raised their four children. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, dancing, playing cards and dominoes, watching cattle sales, and was very talented at repairing cars and tractors. Later in life, he met Joan Campbell, and they spent many happy years together.
Lyle is survived by his special friend, Joan Campbell, Huron; son, Steve Newman, Huron; daughters, Julie (Kevin) Uttecht, Huron, Anita (Doug Ludeman) Newman, Chino Hills, Calif., Carol (Bill) Larsen, Wolsey; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Newman; sisters, Irene Newman and Arlene Siefert; and a brother, Leroy Newman.
