Sunday, Sept. 5, before the High School Timed Events at the South Dakota State Fair, Gus Nelson was presented with a hand-tooled plaque.
Nelson passed on his Heartland Saddle, which he was awarded last year. It is a traveling award. This year’s recipient  of the Heartland Saddle for 2016 is Dawn Cable of Chamberlain.
The plaque was made by Scuhmucker, the boot maker from Wolsey, and it was framed with “old barn wood.” Double D sponsored the frame.
