The Town ‘N Kountry Kids Red Crew 4-H Club met on Oct. 9 at the Community Center in Woonsocket.
The meeting was called to order by Vice President Aaron Linke. The Flag pledge was led by Lane Burkel, and the 4-H pledge was led by Sutton Senska. Roll call was led by Junior President Emily Ohlrogge with the question, “Favorite part of fall,” and answered by 19 members. Six new club members were introduced.
The secretary’s report was read by Nathan Linke and approved as read. Treasurer Xavier Baysinger reported on receiving a $200 check for barrel setting. Aaron presented a bill for printer ink for record book pages and candy for 4-H week. Paying the bill and the treasurer’s report as presented were approved.
Hope Baysinger gave a report on barrel setting. Aaron and Nathan Linke told about their participation in Western Junior Livestock Show. Spens Schlicht talked about Record Books, and Sutton gave a report on 4-H week. For National 4-H Week, Leader Paula Linke visited the elementary classrooms where 4-H members talked about their favorite part of 4-H, and handed out green caramel apple suckers to anyone wearing green.
Under Old Business, discussion was held about getting signed up for the Skyzone trip on Nov. 11. Getting the barrel setting shifts filled on Oct. 22-23 was also discussed.
Under New Business, Aaron talked about what to bring for the Recognition Event on Nov. 12 at the 4-H Building. It is a potluck supper, and bring two dozen cookies/bars per family for the sponsor thank you plates.
It was decided to move the November meeting to Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m. at the 4-H Building, prior to Recognition Event.
Last year’s club goals were met and the club set the following club goals for this year:
1) 100 percent record book turn-in,
2) getting demonstrations or talks done before September,
3) 4-H Online Registration by Oct. 31, and
4) each member participates in one new project area or youth-in-action activity.
Leader Paula talked about getting this year’s individual goals set and what they need to do in order to earn awards in this coming year. Each member was asked to write down their goals, along with the steps for achieving the goal.
Aaron talked about planning for American Education Week. First, the club decided to bring brownies for the staff break rooms. Sutton Senska, Nathan and Megan Linke were appointed to a committee to decide what else to do. Preparations will be completed at the November meeting.
Health and Safety Officer Nick Snedeker gave a report on safety activities to do during Fire Safety Week.
Election of officers was held with the following results: President – Aaron Linke, Vice President – Xavier Baysinger, Secretary – Spens Schlicht, Treasurer – Megan Linke, Recreation – Hope Baysinger, Health & Safety Officers – Emily Ohlrogge and Sutton Senska, and Co-Character Officers – Shaun Snedeker and Wyatt Feistner. Additional officers will be chosen at the November meeting.
Following the meeting, members participated in a Family Consumer Sciences Tools and Painting Identification Judging activity led by Leader Paula.
Members wrote letters to their elderly friends. Shaun led club members in a Character activity on Caring.
Cloverbud members made turkey feathers and heads for the “stuff the turkey” community service activity. The club will be putting out Stuff the Turkey boxes around the community, asking for food and toiletry donations for the Sanborn County Food Pantry.
Lunch was served by the Senska and Snedeker families.
