“Breaking of the Bricks” ceremony held at State Fair

A “Breaking of the Bricks” ceremony was held on Labor Day of the State Fair this year and gave fairgoers a preview of plans for a new 4-H Clover Hall.
“A new building is necessary,” said Karen Lambert of Artesian, 4-H Leader’s Association Vice President, “because the front two-thirds of the current structure is no longer usable.  The interior has deteriorated to the point where it simply is no longer a safe, healthy environment for holding 4-H activities.”
The new building will hold over 33,000 square feet of open exhibit space for 4-H exhibits, three larger classrooms, appropriate space for the 4-H Performing Arts Troupe and performance stage for Performing Arts, Fashion Revue and 4-H recognition celebrations, a 1,935 square feet kitchen to accommodate Special Foods contest, concessions and the 4-H Leaders State Fair BBQ, two restroom areas at each end of the building, a large multi-purpose area and office space for members of the Beadle County Extension, as well as office space for SDSU Extension and 4-H use during the State Fair.
