Milton “Mit” Fortier, 80, Mitchell, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in his home at Mitchell.
Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Mitchell. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation was Sunday evening in the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Milton James Fortier was born Nov. 3, 1931 at Armour to Ernest and Sadie (Bosma) Fortier. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1949. He was employed at Culhanes Dairy and Stevens and Weber Mobil in Mitchell.
On Jan. 1, 1954, he married Betty Larson at Mount Vernon. He then operated the Corn Palace Motel, Stevens Motel and then owned and operated the Towne Motel. For 25 years. He was a realtor and broker and owned and operated Amigo Real Estate.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Senior Citizens and was a Davison County Commissioner for two terms. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed hunting, boating, bowling and collecting classic cars.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Michael Fortier and wife, Holly, of Mitchell; one daughter, Monica Trabing and husband, Gary, of Mitchell; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Anita Fink and husband Dennis of Mitchell; one brother, Harvey Fridley of Gillette, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Delano Fortier; an infant brother; a half-sister, Yolanda Karnisz; and his step-father, C.H. Fridley.
