Barry Dean Grabenstein, Sr., 72, of Whitewright, Texas, formerly of Letcher, passed away at Hunt Regional Healthcare in Greenville, Texas, on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016.
Memorial services were Saturday, June 24, at the Letcher Community Center, with burial at Westlawn Cemetery in Letcher.
Barry Dean Grabenstein, son of Albert and Elvira (Pendelton) Grabenstein, was born June 19, 1944, in Mitchell. He lived in Letcher until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1962.
To his loved ones, Barry was better known as “Red” with his red hair and personality to match. He was an adventurous man who enjoyed time with his family, traveling, and tinkering with any machine. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing.
Barry dedicated 30 years to serving his country, ultimately retiring as a Master Chief Naval Counselor in 1992.
He is survived by his children, Jerry, Sherry, John, Barry Jr., Terra, Bobby and Jennifer; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Deanna Sieler, Karda Shoults and Janele Tolley; and loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Doyle and Jody.
