Matthew Wetzel, 30, of Wessington Springs, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, as the result of an automobile accident.
His memorial service was Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Foothills Bible Fellowship Church in Wessington Springs with Rev. Scott Spehs and Rev. Richard Weeman officiating. Inurnment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A memorial visitation was Monday, July 31, at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Matthew John Wetzel was born Jan. 30, 1987, to Bryan and Tammy Wetzel.
Matthew was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 2005 and from Dakota State University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in digital animation and design. After working in his field for a couple of years, Matthew came home to work in the family business. He was the fifth generation to do so. He agreed to stay and help when his brother-in-law, Kyle Everson, was activated for duty overseas with the 114th Fighter Wing/CE ANG unit.
Matthew enjoyed family hunting trips, gaming with his friends and small family gatherings.
He is survived by his parents, Bryan and Tammy; his sister, Amy (Kyle) Everson of Woonsocket; his niece and nephew; his grandmother, Janece; his uncles, Keith (Jen), Mark, Tim (Connie); and his aunt, Tina (Kent); and their families.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Donald.
