SDSU 4-H Extension has selected recipients for the 2022 South Dakota 4-H scholarships. Scholarships are funded by South Dakota 4-H and other 4-H donors and supporters.

Shania Cornelius received the John F. and Beryl Younger 4-H Scholarship for $650. The recipient must be pursuing a degree in elementary or secondary education or family consumer sciences education within the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership or College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at SD State University.

Dilyn Brooks received a South Dakota 4-H Shooting Sports Scholarship for $500. The selection criteria is based on Scholastic Achievement, Character, and 4-H Shooting Sports Involvement.

No houses have been blown down, but the wind has been blowing relentlessly for days, and it just keeps coming back with force each day. It has been windy every day for approximately two weeks straight, and when we say windy, we don’t mean breezy, we mean windy. With some gusts from 25 to even 50-plus miles per hour for several days in the past 10 days, some parts of Sanborn County just couldn’t hold on any longer, and damage was done. 

While a semi-truck was tipped over on SD Highway 37 for a while last Thursday, the roof started to peel off the Fibertech building that sits just to the east of the Local Lumber Yard property on the north side of SD Highway 34. The nice wooden fence that Anthony and Ericka Filter had built all around their yard did not weather well, as a large section of the fence on the west side of their back yard blew completely down flat to the ground. Many lawn ornaments and outdoor equipment from people’s yards all over the county were destroyed or blown into other areas.

The CorTrust Bank ALM (Artesian, Letcher, Mt. Vernon) Community Foundation Board of Directors recently awarded the following grants: Fedora Fire Department for $1,500 towards the purchase of new wildland coats, pants and gloves, and the Letcher Youth Program for $2,000 towards equipment for the new teener baseball program.
