Artesian American Legion Auxiliary Jackson Hall Post 47 met and judged the essays and poems written by the students. The winners were as follows:

Class I Essays – first place, Kelly Wilson; second place, Levi Hinker; and third place, Gabriel Downing;

Class II Essays – first place, Landree Zoss; second place, Chloe Salathe; and third place, Henry Fridley;

Class IV Essays – first place, Mattea Alger;

Class V Essays – first place, Averie Johnson; second place, Brady Larson; and third place, Casady Dean;

Class VI Essays – first place, Shaniya Lamb; and second place, Jaxson Applegarth; 

Class II Poems – first place, Levi Hinker; second place, Kelly Wilson; and third place, Ayden Kaiser;

Class III Poems – first place, Henry Fridley; second place, Shaniya Lamb; and third place, Chloe Salathe;

Class IV Poems – first place, Evalynn Olson; second place, Lucy Applegarth; and third place, Ava Bornitz.

The Artesian Area WWTS Christmas program “The Animals’ Christmas” was presented at the Artesian First Lutheran Church on Wednesday evening, Dec. 8, to a huge crowd.  Jesus’ birthday was also celebrated.

The cast members of the program were Keira Pollard (sheep), Adalie Enfield (sheep), Kaylee Adams (sheep), Ayden Kaiser (Curly), Carlee Spelbring (Joseph), Paisley King (angel), Alexis Fridley (Mary), Malori Hoffman (donkey), Kelly Wilson (cow), and Whitney Adams (narrator); front row: Andi Fridley, Claire Moore, and Harper Moore (wisemen),  Sullivan Licht (sheep), Cade Wilson (donkey), Nolan Enfield, (cow), Hannah Pollard (dove), Owen Austerman, (camel), Ryder Pollard (sherpherd), and Kinsley Grassel.

On Friday, Nov. 5, supporters gathered at the Artesian Community Center for a Send Off Celebration for local girl Miss South Dakota Teen USA, Katie Schmit, and Miss South Dakota USA, Caroline Pettey.  These two ladies will be busy preparing in the next few weeks for their national competitions in Tulsa, Okla. There was a great turn out of people who enjoyed food, refreshments, and music by Energy Event Group. All attendees came to encourage and to wish the ladies luck. During the week of competition, the ladies will be attending events, rehearsing, and prepping for the national stage. Preliminary competition for both will be Friday, Nov. 26. Katie will be competing for Miss Teen USA with finals on Saturday, Nov. 27, while the finals for Caroline for Miss USA will be Monday, Nov. 29. Both ladies have been touched and are so appreciative of the support they have felt from everyone throughout their reigns. Broadcast details for both finals will be released later.
