The Letcher Volunteer Fire Department held their annual “Texas Hold ‘Em” poker tournament fundraiser on Saturday evening, Jan. 21. A total of 64 poker players entered the friendly competition. The top three finishers were Patrick Hughes (second place), Brian Feistner (first place) and Harvey Fouberg (third place). In addition, the high hand for the night was won by Dave Holthus.

Dr. T. J. Hansen, formerly of Letcher, was recognized as a 2022 Outstanding Educator by the Board of Trustees of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities. The Minnesota State system serves approximately 340,000 students across seven state universities and 26 community and technical colleges. As a faculty member at Minnesota State University-Moorhead (MSUM), Hansen teaches undergraduate courses in Economics and graduate courses in Healthcare Economics and Quantitative Methods. Dr. Hansen is the daughter of James Northrup of Mitchell, formerly of Letcher.

A crowd of about 100 people attended the American Legion Turkey Bingo night. Lunch of BBQ and pie was served for a free will offering by the Auxiliary ladies. Santa came to visit with the kids and hand out treats of candy canes and books. Twenty games of bingo were played with bacon given out for a tie. The winners of the cash drawing chances sold were: $100 to Trevor Bechen, $50 Sonja Olson and $25 to Denny Fouberg.
