Area News

On Friday, Sept. 27, the Sanborn County Sheriff’s Office received a report that rural residents in the Forestburg area had discovered that approximately $1,000 worth of beef had been stolen from their freezers.

Since the meat had been purchased and put in two freezers in June, the complainants estimate that about 170 lbs. of beef have been taken from them in a gradual process over a time span of around three months. The stolen goods include packages of hamburger patties, ground beef and steaks.

The theft wasn’t discovered right away because the meat is owned by two or three people, so they thought that the other owner(s) were taking meat for themselves. However, when the owners were together, they talked about the meat and realized that they hadn’t been using as much as they thought, which is when they discovered what was happening.

Sanborn County Sheriff Tom Fridley is using this platform to make Sanborn County residents aware of this criminal activity and asking them to check their own freezers or food storage areas to see if the above-mentioned incident is or isn’t the only location of theft of this kind. He is also asking anyone who has any information about this crime or knows anyone who might have information to contact the Sheriff’s office at 605-796-4511.

HURON – Jen Block of Huron and Casey Beigh of Woonsocket are now the proud new owners of Auto Body Clinic located in Huron. Though they are new owners they are not new to the business. Block has been with Auto Body Clinic as the front office manager for eight years, and Beigh has been with the company for five years.

Auto Body Clinic, located at 670 21st Street SW, has been serving Huron and surrounding communities for the past 11 years. Originally established by Jeremy Blom back in 2013, Auto Body Clinic offers collision services as well as accessories, windshields and calibration scans.

Though there are changing roles and faces, you can still expect the same great customer service you have come to know and expect.

Editor’s note: Block also has a connection to Woonsocket, as she is married to Ryan Block, grandson of the late Ambrose and Lodema Block of Woonsocket.

The Sanborn County Pheasants Forever Chapter is holding their first annual banquet Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Woonsocket Community Center, with doors and bar opening at 5:30 p.m., with a meal at 7 p.m.

We previously held a similar event with a different organization, but by affiliating with Pheasants Forever, all the money raised stays with the local chapter, which means we, as a chapter, decide where the money goes for local conservation related projects and causes. This is no longer just a fundraising committee. We are a chapter that will be able to work with our two schools, 4-H, and FFA. As the chapter is just starting, we don’t want to commit to every want we have but certainly at the top of the list are a scholarship fund and habitat curriculum for the schools. We are open to new members, and if you have ideas on areas of need, those are welcomed. This is a community chapter looking to serve the community of Sanborn County in any aspect of conservation. Pheasants Forever chapters promote all wildlife and forms of conservation while working with landowners and producers showing that conservation is an important part of an operation’s economic vitality. I am very excited to have this opportunity come to our community. Youth involvement in the outdoors and education will be a large focus of the chapter.

The banquet will consist of games, raffles, and live and silent auctions. There will be many chances to win guns, wildlife prints, and other outdoor oriented items. There will be a youth only drawing for all youth in attendance. Two youth 20-gauge shotguns will be given away, one boy and one girl. Kids must be present with an adult at the time of the drawing to win.

Any questions about the banquet or how to be a donor, please contact Justin Enfield at (605) 770-5026.
