Lloyd Bauder, 82, of Mitchell, passed away Monday, July 1, 2024, at his home in Mitchell. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation was held Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Arrangements were by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Lloyd Edwin Bauder was born on Feb. 1, 1942, to Edwin and Gertrude (Reichenberg) Bauder in Scotland. He graduated from Scotland High School in 1960. After high school, Lloyd managed a local lumber yard in Danbury, Iowa, for several years, then took up law enforcement in 1967, working as a police officer in Mitchell, before retiring in 1992 after 25 years of service.

Lloyd was united in marriage to Shirley M. McCord on Oct. 26, 1969, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woonsocket. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with friends and family.

Lloyd is survived by his three children, Deb (Chris) Subotnik of Kirkland, Wash.; Jim (Barb) Bauder of Mitchell; and Dawn (Andy) Rausch of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; brother, Wilbur (Mary) Bauder of Scotland; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Ralph Bauder.

Abbie Younie, 88, of Wessington Springs, died July 6, 2024, at Weskota Manor. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 11, at the Wessington Springs Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, also at the church, with a prayer service that began at 7 p.m.

Abbie Lou Thompson was born on April 15, 1936, at Wessington Springs, the youngest child of six, to Lewis and Zida Thompson.

Abbie attended country elementary school. Abbie graduated from Wessington Springs High School in the class of 1954 and attended the Wessington Springs Seminary earning her teaching certificate. She taught country school at N.W. Harmony and Templeton School.

Abbie married Denny Younie on Aug. 12, 1956. While in the Army, they lived in Fountain, Colo., and in Nuremberg, Germany. To this union three children were born.

Denny and Abbie lived in rural Harmony and Marlar Townships after returning from Germany and then moved their family and house to Wessington Springs, where they operated the W.S. Livestock Auction. She worked for the Jerauld County Treasurer’s Office and then became Deputy Auditor. She also worked as the Sheriff’s secretary and Office Manager for the Highway Department. She retired in 2011 after working for the county for over 36 years.

Abbie attended Harmony Friends Church, where she served as church pianist for many years and was presently attending the Methodist Church in Wessington Springs.

Abbie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the O.E.S. Vesper Chapter #81 where she held many offices, including Worthy Matron. In 2014, she was Grand Martha for the State of South Dakota. She was a volunteer for the Senior Center and a member of P.E.O.

Abbie is survived by her children, Danny of Wessington Springs, Janet (Curt) Steichen of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Cindy (Chad) O’Donnell of Sioux Falls; sister, Alma Mohling of Wessington Springs; friends of family, Deb and Jay Ball; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Abbie was preceded in death by her husband, Denny; her parents; brothers, Lauren and Thomas; and sisters, Betty and Ila.

Boyden LaValle Frericks, 79, of Redfield, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.

His services will take place on Thursday, July 11, at the Redfield Methodist Church in Redfield. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m., with his funeral service at 2 p.m.  Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield, followed by lunch and fellowship in the church hall. Boyden’s funeral service will be live-streamed on the funeral home’s website below his obituary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com). In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials directed to the Redfield Methodist Church (1326 W 1st Street / Redfield, SD / 57469) in Boyden’s memory.

Boyden was born in the old Redfield Hospital on Sept. 23, 1944, to Glendon and Mildred (Gilbert) Frericks. He joined a brother, Delbert, at a farm home north of Frankfort. He attended grade school at Frankfort Public School and graduated from Redfield High School in 1962. In January 1967, he graduated from SDSU with a degree in animal science.  Boyden loved farming, hunting, 4-H, especially livestock judging, and fishing.

Boyden married Florence McCracken at Forestburg Lutheran Church on June 12, 1966. The couple moved to a Forestburg farm in 1967.  Boyden was an Assistant Beadle County Agent until he was injured in a car accident on July 1, 1969.  In 1970, Boyden and Florence, along with daughters Rosemary and Barb, relocated to Redfield, joining his dad and brother in a crop and livestock farming operation. In 1974, his son, Edward, was born, and in 1977, the family moved to a farm north of Frankfort. In 2010, Boyden retired from farming and moved to Redfield.

Boyden is survived by his wife of 58 years, Florence; daughters, Rosemary (Greg) Dorman of Oakley, Calif., and Barbara (Dave) Hillger of Thorntown, Ind.; son, Ed (Cathy) Frericks of Frankfort; nine grandchildren; his brother, Delbert (Noni) Frericks; brother-in-law, Phil (Judy) McCracken; sisters-in-law, Kathy McCracken and Lois McCracken; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and two brothers-in-law, John McCracken and Bob McCracken.
