Ronald Larson, 82, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket. 

A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.

Ronald Dean Larson was born on Oct. 3, 1938, in Brookings County to parents Lawrence and Carrie (Myre) Larson. Ron joined the United States Marine Corp on Oct. 26, 1955. He was honorably discharged in 1961.

Ron married Carol Wait and had three children, Rick, Tim and Cindy. Ron married Janet Borders in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on June 28, 1979, and they had Sovanna.

Ron received his accounting degree from Huron College in 1985. He started and managed various grain elevators in South Dakota. He worked at Armour’s for a time before finishing his career as an accountant for the Hickory House Inn and the Plains Hotel in Huron.

Ronald enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting, taxidermy and taking drives out to Lake Byron. He was a member of the Marine Corps League in Huron, serving as its Commandant for a time.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Huron; children, Rick (Cindy) Larson of Huron, Tim (Linda) Larson of Brookings, Wayne (Brenda) Jacobson of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Cindy (Bart) Schulte, and Sovanna (Scott) Beekman of Woonsocket; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Alfred Braun and Floyd Brandenburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Delilah Polly, Rosella Hegg, Marlys Braun, and Lavonne Brandenburg.

John R. Tschetter, 94, of Hitchcock, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket. 

His funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Welter Funeral Home. The burial followed at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.

John R. Tschetter, the youngest of nine children, was born on March 24, 1927, to parents Lorenz and Suzanna (Kleinsasser) Tschetter in Lake Byron.

John married Marie B. Gross on June 5, 1948, in Mitchell. John and Marie farmed in the Hitchcock area for many years. John raised cattle, pigs, and chickens. He took great pride in keeping his equipment well maintained. He was active on the township board and Republican township committee.

John is survived by his children, Karen Swanda and Reggie (Jewel) Tschetter, both of Huron, Teresa (Darrell) Simon of Peterson, Minn., and Cheryl (Frank) Raymond of Renner; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie, in 1996; his son-in-law, John Swanda; grandson, Brian Swanda; five sisters, Susanna, Justina, Ida, Rebecca, and Clara; three brothers, Eli, Ed, and Ted; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Pueppke, 101, of Mitchell, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Edgewood in Mitchell.  

Funeral services were Friday, July 23, at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. 

Margaret was born on May 10, 1920, on a farm near Loomis to Clyde and Gladys Taylor. Her elementary school years were spent in a country schoolhouse, where she rode her Shetland pony “Sammy” to school.  She graduated from Letcher High School in 1939.  She enrolled at St. Joseph school of nursing and graduated in 1942.

Margaret worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., Rochester, Minn., St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell, and Methodist Hospital in Mitchell. She worked as a nurse in several area doctor’s offices. She flew with private duty cases to the Mayo hospitals in Minneapolis.  Margaret retired from the Methodist Hospital as a discharge coordinator in 1983. 

In the 1940s, Margaret married Russell Wold and had one daughter, Nancy Ann. After her divorce, she and Nancy moved back to South Dakota.  She met Harvey Pueppke, and they married in 1949. They moved to Mitchell in 1951. In 1951, their daughter, Kathryn, was born. Margaret loved working in her yard and garden, sewing, cooking, hunting and fishing.

She was an active member of the Davison County Extension and judged for 4-H in Davison County and at the State Fair. Margaret was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell, served on the wedding committee and taught Sunday and Bible school. She assisted the Davison County nurses with health care screening clinics.  Margaret was a member of the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the Disabled American Veterans.  Margaret resided at Edgewood in Mitchell since 2013.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Nancy Kulpaca and Kathryn Garrity; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey in 1971; brother, Robert; sister, Bonnie Everson; son-in-law, Donald Kulpaca; sister-in-law, Anna Taylor; and brother-in-law, DeLos Everson.
