Gloria McCain

Howard

Gloria Jean McCain, 80, of Howard, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021, at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, at the Beach United Methodist Church in Howard. Burial followed at Graceland Cemetery in Howard. Visitation was Friday at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard.

Gloria was born May 23, 1941, in Madison to Myrtle (Conn) and Ernest Seitz.  Her father raised her from the age of two.  Gloria attended grade school at Garfield in Madison.  After grade school, she went on to Madison Central where she was in the band and played the tuba.  During school, she enjoyed going to the local roller rink where she met her husband, James McCain, as a freshman in high school.  She graduated from high school in May 1959 and married Jim on Sept. 20, 1959, at First Methodist Church in Madison.  Together they had two children, Timothy and Lorna.  Over the years they traveled together as a family, exploring “National Parks,” “Ball Parks,” and “Camp Parks.”

After the children were in school, Gloria began work in Howard at Raven Industries as a seamstress.  She dedicated over thirty-five years to Raven.  Gloria was part of the local civic league, baked for the 4-H, and was involved in church as the treasurer and head of the funeral committee.  In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening and planting flowers with Jim, spending time with her grandchildren, baking and quilting.  She was active in her local church, playing dominoes with friends, and a member of the local Red Hatters.  Before the passing of Jim, they enjoyed attending basketball games and traveled with three other couples for forty-three years, attending the State Basketball Tournaments.

Gloria is survived by her two children, Timothy (Karmen) McCain, of Mitchell and a teacher and coach at Sanborn Central, and Lorna (Ken) Peters of Sioux Falls; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents; her brothers, Robert Seitz and Keith Seitz; and her sisters, Eleanor Margeson and JoAnn Hansen.

Nita Kingsbury

Williamsburg, Va.

Nita A. Kingsbury, 66, of Williamsburg, Va. and formerly of Artesian, passed away Monday, June 21, 2021. 

Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at the Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Visitation was prior to the service. Burial followed at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian.

Nita Ann Kingsbury was born in Mitchell on Feb. 15, 1955, to Royal and Joan (Rudy) Gaston. Nita spent a lot of time in Artesian as a child and later moved to Mitchell.

She attended high school in Artesian. After high school, she married Dennis Kingsbury on Aug. 12, 1972. Dennis and Nita owned and operated the Artesian Café from 1975-1977.

Later in life, she moved to Williamsburg, Va. to help a friend. She was a kindhearted and spiritual person. Nita had numerous jobs such as caring for friends and for those that needed a helping hand. She loved to be near the ocean, to travel and the simple things in life.

Nita is survived by her son, Shane (Kristeen) Kingsbury of Lennox; daughter, Shawna (Thad) Baysinger of Forestburg; brother, Steve (Judy) Gaston of Mitchell; sisters, Linda Horner of Hot Springs and Peggy Konopka of Woodstock, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Gene Horner and Phill Konopka; father, Royal Gaston; and mother, Joan Gaston.

Linda Mulso

Cathedral City, Calif.

Linda Lee McCormick Mulso, 65, of Cathedral City, Calif., died on June 17, 2021, at home, of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

A celebration of Linda’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 2-6 p.m. at Blarney’s Sports Bar and Grill in Mitchell.

Linda was born in Mitchell on Dec. 31, 1956. She spent her childhood on the family farm and graduated from Letcher High School in 1974. She went on to graduate from Ambassador College in Pasadena, Calif.

Linda was the proprietor of a coffee shop and art gallery, Cottonwood Canyon, in Mitchell. It was famous for espresso and cheesecake. She later sold the business and moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a preschool art director at Montessori. In 2008, in Sioux Falls, she met Tom Mulso. They were married on June 13, 2014. They made homes in Madelia, Minn., Las Vegas, Nev., Laughlin, Nev., Yuma, Ariz., and Cathedral City, Calif.

Linda was a talented multimedia artist. She loved music, art, traveling, cooking, nature and flowers. 

Linda is survived by her husband, Tom; mother, Naomi (Oehlerking) McCormick; brothers, Patrick McCormick and Michael McCormick; and sister, Lisa Ryder.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Joel McCormick, and father, James McCormick.

Linda’s family asks that you consider making a donation to your local Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.
