Terrance “Terry” Charles Walters, 79, of Yankton, died at home on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, surrounded by his family.

A private memorial service was held at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton on Tuesday, Jan. 12, with Rev. Jacqueline Hickox-Morgan officiating.  Burial was in the Bon Homme Cemetery at Yankton.  Due to COVID-19 concerns, Terry’s services were livestreamed at: https://www.facebook.com/opsahlkostel/live. Terry Walters was born in Mitchell to Karl and Doris (Dyer) Walters. The eldest of three children, he grew up in Letcher. Terry would start his day by riding his horse to country school and end it by playing baseball and basketball, his favorite sports. Terry went on to attend General Beadle State Teachers College (now Dakota State University). After graduation, he taught and coached at Lake Andes High School where he met his future wife, Dianne Gorman.

Terry went on to a career with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, working to help various tribes throughout Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. While working with those tribes, he was able to work on humanitarian and educational programs, as well as be a strong advocate for Native American rights on Reservations. He also worked for the Job Corps Program in Montana and Washington state.

He enjoyed horse riding, fishing, playing pinochle with his brothers-in-law and striking up a conversation with anyone. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Yankton. In his later years, he enjoyed taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren fishing and on tubing boat rides, and always had lollipops in his pockets for the little ones.

Terry is survived by his wife, Dianne; his two younger sisters, Lana Andersen and Tama (Dan) Backlund; his children, Shawn (Terri Ann) Walters and Teresa (Larry) Hogeland; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren with a seventh on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Barry J. Bell, 82, of Woonsocket, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at the Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron.

As were his wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no services. Basham Funeral Service in Woonsocket was entrusted with the arrangements. 

Barry was born May 30, 1938, in Huron to Wilbur and Mary (Lovett) Bell.  He graduated from Huron High School in 1956.  He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1960. He married Violet Zimmerman of Forestburg in 1961, and together, they raised two beautiful daughters.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Kerry Bell of Phoenix, Ariz., and Karen (John) Schmidt of Woonsocket; one grandson; one step-grandson; one step-granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter.

LeAnn Rae Musick, 74, of Mitchell, passed away peacefully in her home on Dec. 25, 2020.

A private family graveside service will be at Graceland Cemetery on Thursday, Dec. 31. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service at Northridge Baptist Church in Mitchell. 

LeAnn was born Feb. 13, 1946, to Raymond and Lorraine Feterl at Mitchell St. Joseph Hospital.  LeAnn grew up on a family farm on the outskirts of Salem.   She graduated from Salem High School. After high school, LeAnn attended Stewarts School of Hairstyling, and upon completion, she managed Stewarts in the old Palace Mall. LeAnn married Randy Musick on Aug. 19, 1968. Randy and LeAnn built a beautiful home and successful livestock business on the edge of Mitchell. After managing Stewarts, LeAnn opened her own beauty salon in her home.

LeAnn enjoyed camping, traveling to Mexico, singing, dancing, and spending time with family. 

Grateful for sharing in her life are her two sons, Wade (Michelle), Tanner (Michelle), and a daughter, Casey, all of Mitchell; nine grandchildren; a brother, Alan (Anita) Feterl, of Salem; a sister, Deb (Pat) Jacobsen of Letcher; two brothers-in-law, Roger (Vicki) Musick, of Mitchell and Rick (Kristie) Musick, of Houston, Texas; a sister-in-law, Roxy (Jon) Voorhees, of Syracuse, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Musick; parents, Raymond and Lorraine Feterl; her mother- and father-in-law, Ira and Maxine Musick; a brother, Roger Feterl; and brother-in-law, Denny Jacobsen.
