Lorraine Larson

Woonsocket

Lorraine Larson, 95, of Woonsocket passed away Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, at the Avantara Nursing Home in Huron. 

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 29, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Visitation was Friday, Aug. 28, at the Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket with a prayer service. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery.

Lorraine was born April 21, 1925, to Charles and Bernadine Thomas in Mitchell. She was the oldest of five children. Lorraine married Levo Larson on Oct. 12, 1943. Following their marriage, they lived on a farm near the Larson family homestead.

They had three children, Joyce, Jim and Skip (Merlin). Lorraine devoted her life to her family and farming. She was well known for the watermelons they grew.

Lorraine was very artistic and even drew portraits of Jim and Peggy, Skip and Diane and Joyce. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed fishing, embroidery, cross stitch, crocheting, reading, hunting, word search, puzzles and dancing.

She was also known as a score keeper for the Woonsocket Baseball Team. If there was ever a question of what the score was, Lorraine was the final word.

Lorraine is survived by three children, Joyce (Fred) Stapleton, Jim (Peggy) Larson, Skip (Diane) Larson; eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dick (Jean) Thomas; her sisters-in-law, Alma (Carl) Fulder, Leona (Babe) Larson and Mandy Schulz; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Levo; her parents; granddaughter, Annette Larson; grandson, Garrett Danburg; two brothers and one sister.

Myrna Knigge

Woonsocket

Myrna L. Knigge 82, of Woonsocket passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2020, at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. A scripture service was held at 5 p.m. on Sunday at the church. A visitation was held prior to the service. Burial was in the church cemetery. The service was live streamed on Fr. Kevin Doyle YouTube.

Myrna was born July 10, 1938, to Leo and Gladys (Roti) Higgins in Alpena. She grew up on a farm south of Alpena and later west of Alpena with her parents and six siblings. She attended school in Alpena and graduated in 1956. From there, she earned her nursing degree at St. John’s School of Nursing in Huron in 1959.

She dreamed of moving to California after nursing school; however, she met Charles Knigge at the Lane Ballroom, and after they married on Oct. 22, 1960, she only made it 10 miles when they moved to the Knigge family farm south of Woonsocket. They later moved to the edge of town in 1967 where they raised their four children, Patrick, Cheryl, Lee and Cindy.

Myrna began her career in 1959 at the Huron Regional Medical Center. She then worked at the Weskota Memorial Medical Center from 1960 – 1974. She worked as the Sanborn and Aurora County Community Health Nurse and retired after 27 years of dedicated service in 2001. She loved to care for people and touched many people’s lives. Myrna loved spending time with family, camping, gardening, flowers, traveling, and the color blue. She had a strong faith and was a lifetime member and servant of the St. Wilfrid Catholic Church.

Grateful for sharing her life are her husband, Charles of almost 60 years; children, Patrick, Cheryl (Scott) Moe, Lee (Ann), Cindy (Wade) McKittrick; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marlene (Pat) Howard, Jan Stange, Ilene Breakie, and Diane (Skip) Larson; sisters-in-law, LeElda Higgins and Patricia Higgins; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Myrna in death were her parents; father-in-law, Henry Knigge; brothers, Darrell and Duane; grandson, Tyler; brothers-in-law, Fred Breakie and Donald Stange.

Michael Lyons

Belle Fourche

Michael Thomas Lyons, 77, of Belle Fourche, died Aug. 6, 2020, at the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center in Aurora, Colo. His wife, Paulette, was by his side.

Grave side services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors. 

Mike was born in Wagner. The family moved to Letcher around the time Mike entered high school. He graduated from Letcher High School in 1962, then joined the Navy after graduation. Mike served in the Navy from early 1962 through 1969. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him. He was proud of serving his country and always thanked other servicemen and women who crossed his path for their service. 

Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He had a passion for auctions, attending several during the summers. 

Mike is survived by his wife, Paulette Lyons; daughters, Carol Lyons (Shawn Bailey) of Manteca, Calif. and Teri Lyons of Modesto, Calif.; brothers, Tim Lyons and Bill (Rosalie) Lyons; sisters, Genevieve (Bernie) Lay of Colorado and Peggy Mantel of Bedford Hills, N.Y.; and one grandson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. Lyons and Mary V. Darmody.
