Marvin Miiller

Mitchell

Marvin W. “Finn” Miiller, 87, of Mitchell, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019, at Firesteel Healthcare Community. 

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the First Reformed Church in Mitchell with burial at the New Holland Cemetery in New Holland. Visitation was held Tuesday Dec. 17, at the First Reformed Church. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Marvin W. Miiller, son of George and Catherine (Hohn) Miiller, was born in rural Davison County on Dec. 23, 1931. He attended Union Township, Union 31 Country School. After his schooling, Marvin farmed with his brother, Allen.

Marvin was united in marriage with Alice Fern Jongejeugd on Sept. 28, 1965, at First Reformed Church in Mitchell. He was employed by a farmer north of Mitchell. The couple later moved to Mitchell. While there, Marvin was employed at local lumber yards and other odd jobs.

In his retirement, Marvin served as a school crossing guard and with Green Thumb.

He was a member of First Reformed Church where he served as head usher for many years.

Grateful for having shared his life are his brother, Allen Miiller of Mt. Vernon; a niece, Joyce Murphy of Harrisburg; a brother-in-law, Jack (Irene) Jongejeugd of Platte; and a sister-in-law, Salley Jongejeugd of Platte.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Miiller on Sept. 27, 2015; his parents; and two brothers, LaVern and Earl Miiller.

Melba Webster Ellis, 104, of Evergreen, Colo., died at her residence on Nov. 20, 2019.

Melba was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Logan Township in Sanborn County. She attended country school in Sanborn County and graduated from Woonsocket High School. After high school, Melba attended South Dakota State University (College at that time) and the University of South Dakota. Teaching most of her life, she was a counselor at Washington High School in Sioux Falls when she retired.

Melba is survived by two daughters, Dr. Nita Ellis LaSalle of Colorado and Carol Jost of Blaine, Minn.; one son, Richard Ellis of Albuquerque, N.M.; and a sister, Connie Burrill of Palm Springs, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Ellis in 1954; her brothers, Herbert Webster and Keith Webster; and two sisters, Winifred Cheever and Mattie Olinger.

Darlene Hansen, 87, of Huron, passed away Sunday, Dec. 1, 2019, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. 

A graveside service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. 

Darlene Kukuk was born Feb. 3, 1932, to Sam and Florence (Blue) Kukuk at Sioux Falls. The family lived at Litchfield, Minn. They then moved to the Woonsocket area when she was about 10 years old.

On Nov. 19, 1949, Darlene married John Hansen.

She is survived by her two children, Jackie Gulbrantson of Rockford, Ill., and Gary (Sharon) Hansen of Huron; one granddaughter; one brother, Ron Kukuk; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Jeanean McDonald; one brother, Bill Kukuk; one brother-in-law, Tom McDonald; one sister-in-law, Pat Kukuk; and one son-in-law, Ike Gulbrantson.
