First Lutheran Church Women met Thursday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in the church with seven members present. Kathy Peterson shared devotions reading on forgiveness and Judy Wormstadt and Jerolyn Dean presented a devotion titled “Love Story”. Bev Morris played the organ while the group sang their theme song for the year “Gather, We Gather.” Kathy Peterson led the Bible Study, “Our Present, Christ’s Presence” based on Genesis 1:9-13, Revalations 22:1-5, 16-17 and Matthew 1:18-23 and 28: 16-20. The Lord’s Prayer was prayed and table blessing sung. Lunch was served by hostess, Kathy Peterson, during the business meeting. The treasurer’s report and secretary’s report were both given and approved.
The Harvest Festival at First Lutheran will be Sunday, Oct. 14 with 11 a.m. worship followed by a potluck dinner. There will be a bazaar table with baked goods, craft items and miscellaneous items. Deanna Dean and Dorothy Weinberger volunteered to work at the bazaar table.
The ladies that attended the Fall Retreat at Badger gave a report. There were 137 in attendance that day. $855 was raised at the silent auction. These funds will be divided among the three Lutheran Campus Ministries at Brookings, Aberdeen and Vermillion.
October is pastor appreciation month. Both the church and the circle plan to do something special for Pastor LeShea. A special thank you to all who helped clean the church. The Lutheran World Relief kits were taken to Badger. $101.35 was paid by the group for shipping costs. Cards were signed and will be sent to Joyce Mills and Myrna Moore. Joyce fell and broke her arm at Firesteel Healthcare Center and Myrna had surgery. Judy Wormstadt reported on visiting Joy Ranch near Watertown. Members were asked to think of outreach projects for the holidays
Pastor LeShea, her son, Taylor, and his twin daughters, Alexis and Charlie, stopped in, visited and had lunch with the group. The twins were the first baptisms in our new church a year ago.
