The Letcher American Legion Auxiliary met at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the Community Center.
President Sandi Ruml called the meeting to order. Chaplain Pat Nelson read the opening prayer. The flag salute and preamble were recited. A moment of prayer was observed for our veterans.
Roll call was taken. Present were Sandi Ruml, Kathy Northrup, Clara Wise, Shirley Ruml, Pat Nelson, Edith Moe and Mary Luckett.
Secretary Luckett read the minutes from the September meeting. Treasurer Shirley Ruml read the treasurer’s report. Both were approved as read.
President Sandi Ruml read a letter from District 6 President Theresa Maeschen regarding membership. Permanent memberships are now being promoted. Discussion was held on how we might help. A motion was made by Edith Moe and seconded by Shirley Ruml, that we save the money we collect for lunch at our meetings. At the end of the year we could buy one permanent membership or use it for another special purpose. Motion carried.
Treasurer Shirley Ruml bought gift items for the veterans at the State Veterans Home at Hot Springs and will be mailing them soon.
Kathy Northrup is making Christmas stockings to send to the Veteran’s Hospital at Sioux Falls.
Myah Selland, a student at Sanborn Central School, was the winner of the National Legion Auxiliary Essay contest. She will be honored at the State American Legion Convention at Rapid City on Oct. 28.
Poppy orders are due and Treasurer Shirley Ruml will be placing an order for our unit.
A potluck supper to honor all veterans will be held in the Letcher Community Center on Nov. 11 at 6 p.m.
Chaplain Pat Nelson read the closing prayer and President Shirley Ruml adjourned the meeting.
Shirley Ruml was hostess.
The next meeting will be Nov. 12 at 8 p.m. Sally Olson will be hostess.
