Martha Davies, 91, Mitchell, formerly of Tyndall, died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital, Mitchell.
Funeral services were Monday, Sept. 17 in First Lutheran Church, Mitchell. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, Fulton.
Visitation was Sunday in Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
Martha Elizabeth Swenson, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Black) Swenson, was born Aug. 29, 1921, at Mitchell.
She was united in marriage with John M. Davies on Nov. 22, 1945, in Rock Creek Lutheran Church.
She taught school in rural Hanson County and in Tyndall.
She was a member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church at Mitchell, and a member of St John’s Lutheran Church at Tyndall.
Martha was also a member of American Legion Auxiliary PEO Club and received the Sally Mae Teaching Award.
She is survived by five children, Jim (Camille) Davies, Alexandria, John (Carol) Davies, Rapid City, Dan Davies, Helena, Okla., Rich Davies, Lacey Springs, Ala., ad Becky (Mike) Larsen, Viborg; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Orr, Lead, and Shirley Wolter, Woonsocket; a brother, Wayne (Vangie) Swenson, Anoka, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Jeannie Swenson, Laurel, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; an infant son, Steven; and three brothers, Joseph, Gene and Paul.
