The First Lutheran Church Women met Thursday evening, Jan. 24, in the church with five members and Pastor LeShea Avery present.
Devotions, “Prayer Mix,” were led by Judy Wormstadt. The group sang together the Bible study theme song, “Gather, We Gather.” The Bible study, “Getting Away” based on Mark 6:30-31, was studied together. The Lord’s Prayer was prayed, the table blessing sang and lunch was served by hostess Judy Wormstadt during the business meeting.
The treasurer’s report was read by Deanna Dean and approved. A report was given on Rachelle Moore’s senior project, a seventh and eighth grade girls basketball tournament, which the ladies helped with. The proceeds went to “Cure Kids Cancer” through Sanford Research. The group furnished 35 pounds of hamburger for barbecues, bars for the noon meal served, baked goods for the bake sale and workers to help with the noon meal and bake sale. The project earned $2,700. This was the circle’s January outreach project.
Thank yous were read from Rachelle Moore for the group’s help, Arlene Dorris and Ray Mathis for the Christmas fruit baskets, and Judy Wormstadt thanked the group for the Christmas gift that she received. A report was given out listing all the FLCW news from 2012 and also the outreach projects accomplished. The group decided to help with the Love Feast on May 30 in the First Methodist Church at Mitchell again this year. Please mark your calendars, and plan to help.
Fleece has been purchased to make the high school graduation blankets for the congregation’s graduates. They will be tied during coffee time after upcoming church services. Pastor LeShea reported that the fleece blanket tied for the little boy whose sister died from cancer will be delivered soon.
Deanna Dean will get the $250 check sent off for the Hurricane Sandy victims. It was decided to purchase the dozen Bibles Pastor LeShea had ordered and give them to the Mitchell Area Safehouse. Members are encouraged to bring fabric to church that could be used for a quilt for Lutheran World Relief.
Joyce Olson has extended an invitation to the group and any other interested church members that might like to go to the Chapel on the Prairie at Hoven and then come to Joyce and Doug’s home at West Witlock for a meal and fellowship. A date will have to be discussed.
Jeanie King, Fedora Presbyterian Church’s World Day of Prayer chairman, has asked our group to help with World Day of Prayer in March. The group agreed to explore the possibilities of a weekend backpack program for area children who might need it.
Another project suggested was to visit residents at CountrySide Living Retirement Center at Mitchell. Bold Woman’s Day is Feb. 24. Pastor LeShea is planning a special litany for the church service. Deanna Dean volunteered to host circle in February.
