By Owen Anderson, County Executive Director, Sanborn/Jerauld County Office Planting Violations: In addition to wetland drainage violations producers can lose program benefits because of wetland planting violations. Planting violations occur whenever a producer plants an agricultural commodity in an unauthorized converted wetland. You will get yourself in trouble for planting in a converted wetland even if you were not the person who did the conversion. If you rent or buy new ground be sure to check if there are any converted wetlands. Planting in a converted wetland makes the producer and affiliates ineligible for affected program benefits for all land associated with the producer and affiliates for all years that planting violations occur. Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) and Non-Insured Assistance Program (NAP) coverage deadline for spring planted crops. See your MPCI agent for MPCI and FSA for NAP coverage on non-insurable crops by March 15. CRP Mid-Contract Management: CRP participants wanting to do a prescribed spring burn to fullfill mid-contract management requirements in 2013 should be getting approved burn plans prepared soon. Prescribed burns are allowed from March 1 to May 15. Scott Groepper of Pheasants Forever can write burn plans. He works in the Sanborn NRCS office.
