Sanborn County Republican voters mimicked the state turnout fairly closely voting in an overwhelming majority for Donald Trump with 73 percent of the vote.
Democratic voters in Sanborn County are more split, as 59 percent checked Hillary Clinton’s box.
In Sanborn County, as in the state, Ted Cruz received 17 percent, despite his having already dropped out of the race. John Kasich, whose name also appeared on the ballot after having seceded from the race, received the rest of Sanborn County’s votes.
Just 277 out of the 1,630 registered voters, or 17 percent, turned out for last Tuesday’s primary, 166 voting in the Republican primary and 111 marking the Democratic ballot.
Statewide, 21.93 percent of registered voters cast ballots in the primary. The Republican primary had a total turnout of 27.2 percent and the Democratic primary, just 17.5 percent.
Trump won the state of South Dakota with a total 67.1 percent of the Republican vote.
Statewide, Clinton slid by Bernie Sanders with 51 percent.
