Woonsocket native graduates with doctorate degree

Sydney Swenson, daughter of Dan and Jane Swenson of Woonsocket, graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in a commencement ceremony held on May 14.
Sydney will begin her career as a licensed physical therapist in the Chronic Pain Center at the Minneapolis VA in Minneapolis, Minn. She is a 2010 graduate of Woonsocket High School, and a 2014 graduate of South Dakota State University.
Sydney is the granddaughter of Connie and the late Charles Swenson of Woonsocket, and Dick and Angie Steckley of Geddes.

Twin Lakes boat access reopened

In response to a bill passed last week by the SD Legislature, the Game, Fish and Parks have re-opened boat access to Twin Lakes in southern Sanborn and Jerauld counties.
The bill reopens more than 25 non-meandering lakes to public use, unless otherwise posted as closed by the lakes’ landowners.
Non-meandering waters and lakes are defined by the Legislature as lakes created by heavy snow and rain in the 1990s. Twin Lakes came to be a lake used for recreation well before that time.
In response to a March Supreme Court decision, the Game, Fish and Parks restricted boat access to the lake at the public boat ramp. The campground has remained open throughout this debacle.

Spirit of Faith Day Camp registration due

The Summer Day Camp, sponsored by Spirit of Faith Church in Woonsocket and Lutheran Outdoors, will be held Monday through Thursday, July 24-27 at the Woonsocket Community Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade.
Camp counselors will also lead church services at Spirit of Faith Church on Sunday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m.
Cost of the camp is $25, which includes a daily hot noon meal and a T-shirt, and registration is due by Saturday, July 1. Forms are available at Spirit of Faith Church, from Sarah Jensen, or by calling Julie Davis at 495-4218.
Spirit of Faith is also sponsoring Vacation Bible School for pre-school children ages 3-5. It will also be held July 24-27 at Spirit of Faith Church from 9-11 a.m., and a $10 registration fee will be charged.
Theme for the week is FOR YOU and the theme verse is, “Always be joyful, Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will FOR YOU who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
