Winter storms, tornadoes, floods, and drought are some of the natural hazards that strike Sanborn County. Events like these have the potential of causing thousands of dollars annually in damage to property. To lessen the impact of these disasters in the future, Sanborn County is beginning the process of updating its current Disaster Mitigation Plan.
A series of public meetings will occur this year to obtain input as the plan is developed. These meetings are open to everyone. If you have an idea about what can be done to prepare for future disaster events occurring in Sanborn County, you are urged to attend the meetings.
The first meeting will be held Wednesday, May 24, at 1 p.m. in the Commissioners Room in the Sanborn County Courthouse. Agenda items for the meeting include identifying and profiling the hazards that impact Sanborn County. We will also review the county’s current disaster mitigation plan.
Additional information about the meeting can be obtained by contacting the Sanborn County Emergency Management Office at 605 796-4511 or by email at deputyjason@santel.net. You can also contact John Clem at 800 952-3562 or by e-mail at John.Clem@districtiii.org.
