Hazel Elnora Parquet, 92, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away March 19, 2017, at Custer Regional Senior Care.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 25, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Visitation was Friday, March 24, with a 7 p.m. vigil at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Woonsocket. Memorials will be directed to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Hill City, or to the Hill City Senior Citizen Center.
Hazel was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Fedora, to Eugene and Nora (Purkey) Hubbart. She graduated from Fedora High School and attended General Beadle College at Madison, where she obtained a teaching certificate.
She married Harold Parquet on June 3, 1947, and to this union five children were born: Lois, Betty, Mary, Tom and Chuck. Hazel was a teacher, postal clerk, lunchroom assistant, and an employee at Van Dyke’s in Woonsocket. Her hobbies included cake decorating, upholstery, sewing, knitting, crocheting, square dancing, card playing, socializing and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Hazel was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, a 4-H leader, religious education teacher and an avid RSVP volunteer.
Hazel is survived by her husband, Harold; her children, Betty (Tim) Weber, Mary (Dave) Larson, Tom (Mary) Parquet and Chuck Parquet; son-in-law, Les Hellevang; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and one daughter, Lois.
