Matthew Walter Novak, 33, of Woonsocket, appeared in Sanborn County Court Tuesday, Jan 3, to change his plea from not guilty to guilty of first-degree manslaughter by means of a dangerous weapon in the murder of Jennifer Ann Gibson, 26, of Woonsocket, on Aug. 31, 2016. The charge carries a maximum sentence of any term of years up to life imprisonment, a $50,000 fine, or both.
