SCW girls record impressive win

The Class B No. 3 rated Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks handed the Class A No. 3 McCook Central/Montrose Cougars their first loss in a dazzling display of hot shooting and scrappy defense at the Parkston Classic Friday, Dec. 30.
After only a 3-point spread in the first quarter, SCW outscored MCM 18-7 in the second quarter and 17-11 in the third. However, the Cougars came from a 20-point deficit at the end of the third quarter to cut the Blackhawks’ lead to six points before SCW scored the next four points and pulled out the win.
Myah Selland led the charge both offensively and defensively and scored 25 points. Megan Poyer added 10 points and Abby Doering recorded seven. Maddie Vermeulen and Tristan Ziebart also contributed six points apiece to the win.
Next action for the Lady Blackhawks (3-0) was at Hitchcock-Tulare on Dec. 31.
