Huron – Chairman Dan Klimisch of Yankton announces that the James River Water Development District Board of Directors will be holding their regular meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 251 4th Street SW in Huron, at 9 a.m.
Items on the agenda are:
1. Funding request from US Geological Survey for operation and maintenance of three streamflow gaging stations on the James River.
2. Funding request from Town of Volin for a study for improvements on their wastewater system.
3. Funding request from Town of Langford for engineering, legal, administrative and testing for water distribution improvements in the Town of Langford.
4. Funding request from Beadle Conservation District for soil health and water quality demo project.
5. Funding request from Sanborn Conservation for a grass drill.
6. Funding request from Conservation Districts for 2018 tree planting efforts.
7. Funding request from Northeast Glacial Lakes Watershed Protection and Improvement for water quality testing.
8. Update on the Wolsey IBA NAWCA project.
9. Update on 2017 water sampling from DENR.
10. Update on the South Central Watershed Project.
11. District update from staff, directors and chairman.
12. Executive session (if needed).
13. Any other business that may come before the Board.

Gwendolyn Zoss

Woonsocket

Gwendolyn Kay Zoss, 80, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at the Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, at First United Methodist Church in Mitchell, with burial at 1:30 p.m., at Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher. Visitation was from 7-9 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 5, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Gwendolyn Kay Zoss, daughter of Ralph and Margaret (Moore) Wittstruck, was born Feb. 20, 1937, in Mitchell. She attended school in Mitchell and worked at the Town House Café for many years.
Kay was united in marriage with Duane Byrd and had four children, David, Rodney, Sandra and Blaine. Later, she moved to Letcher and was united in marriage with Robert Zoss. The couple farmed and raised watermelons.
Kay spent many hours attending to her flower and vegetable gardens, as they were her passion. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always there to help out with anything.
Kay is survived by her children, Rodney (Shelby) Byrd, Sandra (Mark) Brueske, and Blaine Byrd; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Byrd; two husbands, Duane Byrd and Robert Zoss; her parents; two sisters, Mary and Nita; and three brothers, Don, Johnny and Jerry.

Robert Paullin

Fredericksburg, Va.

Robert Lewis Paullin, 89, of Fredericksburg, Va., died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m. at Centreville Presbyterian Church in Centreville, Va. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 6, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, with Masonic Rites at 7:30-8 p.m.
Robert Lewis Paullin was born Oct. 15, 1928.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary; three children, Jeff (Jackie) Paullin, Mark (Cindy) Paullin, and Nicole (Trey) Bressler; four grandchildren; his other “daughter”, Marisa (Andy) Scruggs and children; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the American Legion Tormey-Stach Post 93 of Letcher.
