The Artesian First Lutheran Circle and Quilters met on Thursday evening, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The business meeting was the first item on the agenda. The treasurer’s report by Deanna Dean and the secretary’s report by Jerolyn Dean were both read and approved. A report was given by Judy Wormstadt on the completed projects for Lutheran World Relief, the Church on the Street, the Abbott House of Mitchell, and the Mitchell Area Safehouse. The quilt completed for Lutheran Outdoors can be viewed at the website LOSD.org under the quilt auction tab. The quilts and other items will be available for silent auction bids until Nov. 20.
Casady Dean and Noah Wormstadt were confirmed, and Luke Bechen was baptized at the worship service on Oct. 28. There was a large crowd in attendance for the Harvest Festival that followed. Thankofferings will be collected at the church service on Nov. 18. If you can’t be in church that day, you may give your thankoffering to Deanna Dean anytime.
The WWTS Christmas program and birthday party for Jesus is scheduled for Wednesday evening, Dec. 12, at 6:30 p.m. The church ladies will serve lunch following the program. Mark this date on your calendar, for an evening of entertainment and fellowship.
A special Christmas project that the church gals are doing is saving rewards points from Coborns and stamp cards from County Fair to get turkeys for holiday food boxes in Sanborn County. There is a box in the church entryway for other items for holiday meals like instant potatoes, canned sweet potatoes, stuffing mix, cranberries, canned fruit and gravy mixes. If anyone shopping at Coborns would like to use the rewards number 605-527-2342 then those points will go towards turkeys for the church. Any stamp cards from County Fair are welcome also. The special turkey promotion at the stores only goes until Thanksgiving.
Judy and Jean Wormstadt delivered five afghans, and some Christmas cards and calendars to the Prairie View Healthcare Community at Woonsocket. Terry Moore had gotten the afghans at a household sale.
The Bible study titled “Let Us Pray” (session three) was led by Deanna Dean, and lunch was served by Joyce Olson. The group shared the table blessing and Lord’s Prayer together. Terry Moore gave each attendee a copy of the inspirational book “Uninvited” by Lysa TerKeurst. Thank you very much, Terry. After the Bible study, the group worked on tying three quilts and arranging blocks for six quilts. Those in attendance were Joyce Olson, Jerolyn Dean, Deanna Dean, Jean Wormstadt, Jess Fridley, Judy Wormstadt, Terry Moore, Jane Marten, and Lisa Murray.
