On Thursday, June 14, the junior varsity and varsity SCW Blackhawks girls’ basketball teams took part in the Parkston Jamboree Team Camp.
The JV started the day off with a loss to one of Parkston’s JV teams with a score of 31-40. The varsity competed next against Gayville-Volin and came away with their first victory of the day with a final score of 27-21.
Then, after a short break, the JV played again. This time they played against Menno’s JV team and lost a close game with a score of 20-22. The varsity girls played next versus the Mitchell Christian varsity team. They won that game with a score of 32-19. Right after that game, the varsity had to play, with no break, against the Menno varsity team. They lost a hard fought game with a score of 25-35. At this point, the SCW Blackhawks had not eaten anything since the start of the day. After they finished their third basketball game, they were tired and hungry.
The last two games of the day saw the Blackhawks varsity against the Viborg-Hurley varsity. They came away victorious with a score of 27-14. The Blackhawks JV girls played another Parkston JV team and ended the day with a tough loss and a final score of 20-26.
Overall, the day was beneficial for the Lady Blackhawks’ basketball program. The gyms were very hot and humid. There was a fire alarm that went off so the Parkston Fire Department had to come and investigate, but nothing was found, and the girls had to play for five hours before getting a break. They endured the day’s adversities well, and did not give up until the last game was over.
