The Woonsocket Board of Education met in special session on June 27th, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. in the DDN room of the Woonsocket School. The purpose of the special meeting was to approve budget supplements for the 2017-2018 school term. Members attending were: Jason White, Neal Hiemstra, and Lisa Snedeker. Todd Olinger and Jodi Doering were absent. Others attending were Superintendent Rod Weber and Chris Selland. The meeting was called to order at 12:00 p.m.
On a motion by Neal Hiemstra, seconded by Lisa Snedeker, the Board approved the meeting agenda as presented. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Lisa Snedeker, with a second by Neal Hiemstra, to approve the 2017-2018 budget supplements as outlined in addendum A. Motion carried. General fund budget supplements were much higher than usual this year due to legislation reducing the amount of school reserve funds to 30 percent (lowest fund balance month) of annual expenditures. Any amount over and above the 30 percent would be sent back to the State via a dollar for dollar reduction in state aid for the following year. Also, due to an increase in enrollment of 15 students from 2016-17 to 2017-18, funding from the new state funding formula increased for the district by over $90,000.00, thus necessitating the need for a further spend down of funds to meet the reserve requirement cap.
Motion was made to approve a Driver’s Ed stipend for Mitch Korbel in the amount of $900.00 for assistance with the driving portion of the class with a corresponding reduction of $900.00 in Driver’s Ed pay for Karen Jackson effective with the 2018-2019 school year. Motion was made by Neal Hiemstra, with a second by Lisa Snedeker, and motion carried.
Motion was made by Lisa Snedeker, with a second by Neal Hiemstra, to approve the 2018-2019 Woonsocket Title and IDEA applications for federal funds. Motion carried.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the June 27th, 2018, special board meeting of the Woonsocket Board of Education was adjourned at 12:20 p.m. on a motion by Neal Hiemstra, with a second by Lisa Snedeker. Motion carried.
