Phyllys Hargarten, 80, of Mitchell and formerly of Pine City, Minn., died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 25, at Mitchell Assembly of God Church in Mitchell. Burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Artesian. Visitation and prayer service were held Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Phyllys Hargarten was born on Aug. 27, 1939, in Rush City, Minn., to Lawrence and Alma (Keiser) Boeck. She attended Braham High School and Anoka Hennipen Technical College. She held many jobs throughout her life, including being a foster parent, railroad car order agent, caterer/cook/baker, elder care provider, real estate agent, personal care attendant, bartender and private investigator assistant in Puerto Rico.
Phyllys enjoyed embroidery, sewing, playing Yahtzee, gardening, baking, canning, writing a manuscript, spending time with family and serving at church activities. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stacy, Minn.; Queen Mum with the Stacy Red Hatters; and North Branch Community Theater.
She is survived by her children, Davy (Jerry) Uecker of Mitchell, LaVonne Stevenson of Milaca, Minn., Jeff Larson of Pine City, Minn. and Jo Anne Oberg of Mitchell; eight grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; foster sons, Larry (Raquel) Snipes of Tucson, Ariz. and Michael Snipes of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a foster daughter, Michelle (Frederick) Douglas of Leesburg, Va.; siblings, Sherry (Jim) Deneau of St. Louis, Mo. and Katie (John) Josephson of Dassel, Minn.; brother-in-law, Tom Schroepfer of St. Paul, Minn.; sister-in-law, Karilon (Jack) Moin of Chisago City, Minn.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jan Schroepfer and Ardyce Boeck; brother, Terry Boeck; sons-in-law, Melvin Stevenson and Shane Oberg; granddaughter, Carla Chesbrough; grandson, Aaron Stevenson; and great-granddaughter, Kitiara Stevenson.
