SCW ladies are regular-season 281 Conference Champions

On Monday night, the Lady Blackhawks hosted the James Valley Christian Vikings in Forestburg for their last regular season 281 Conference matchup. The SCW ladies worked well together to come out on top and win the 281 Conference Championship for regular season play. The varsity final score was SCW 67, James Valley 39.

The Lady Blackhawks were led by three players in double digits with Trinity Boschee and Kaylee White both scoring 12 points and Trista White registering 11. Kaylee White also contributed 11 rebounds and four assists, while her sister, Trista, brought down eight rebounds. Boschee also added four rebounds. Teya Moody helped out with nine points, Brooke Doering had eight points, and Taryn Ziebart handed in seven points for the books.

The junior varsity girls had a rough night and handed the James Valley JV girls a win with a final score of 17-38. Teya Moody led the scoring for that game with six points.

In the last week of the regular season, the WSWWW wrestlers traveled to Huron to participate in the Huron Invitational. There were 13 teams competing in the tournament, and the WSWWW squad placed seventh as a team overall and third in the B-schools. 

The wrestlers who placed were: Joey Hoverson, third place, 120 pounds; Keegan Haider, second place, 138 pounds; Carter Grohs, second place, 152 pounds; Landon Wolter, sixth place, 160 pounds; Seth Tebay, third place, 170 pounds; Brock Stevens, fifth place, 182 pounds and Quinten Christensen, second place, 220 pounds. 

With the regular season under their belts, the WSWWW wrestlers will now prepare for post-season action. They will start with the Region Tournament this Saturday, Feb. 22 in Winner. They will be working hard at that tournament to finish in the top four of their weight class to advance to the State Tournament that takes place in Sioux Falls on Feb. 27-29. 

VERMILLION – The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Dakota Realty Alumni Meet on Saturday in Vermillion. 

Senior Rex Schlicht (Woonsocket) led the way for the Tigers in the 600-meter run. With a 1:25.87-minute run, Schlicht took home first place. The time moves him into the top-10 in the conference in that event. 

The Tigers will have their next meet for the GPAC Conference Championships in Mitchell this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 21 and 22.
