On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Blackhawk Cross Country team traveled to Gettysburg to compete in the Region 4B Cross Country Meet.
The day was windy with high sustained winds and gusts of 40 mph, and the temperature at the Gettysburg Country Club was chilly. The girls’ varsity began the races for the afternoon. The Blackhawk girls had five runners competing. Hannah Terkildsen medaled with third place. Lizzie Boschee placed 22nd, Trinity Boschee came in 26th, Jaycee Baruth came in 27th and Emilie Lindgren placed 34th. As a team, the girls varsity placed fourth at the Region Meet.
The boys’ varsity race was run second with five Blackhawk runners competing. The Blackhawk boys who medaled included Jeff Boschee in 10th place and Braxton Gentles who placed 16th. Noah Terkildsen came in 25th, Andrew Lindgren placed 35th and Carter Christian came in 45th. As a team, the Blackhawk boys placed fifth at the Region Meet.
Three Sanborn Central/Woonsocket cross country members placed high enough at the Region Meet to qualify to compete at the State meet including Hannah Terkildsen, Jeff Boschee and Braxton Gentles. The South Dakota State Cross Country Meet will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Rapid City.
