Woonsocket 2020 Graduation Information released

By Supt. Rod Weber

Due to COVID-19, the 2020 Woonsocket graduation will be held at the DakPak parking lot east of town on Highway 34.  The set up for the ceremony will resemble an outdoor drive-in theater. The stage will be located on the south end of the parking lot with cars facing the graduates. The presence of your support will make this a very special moment for our 2020 graduates.

For the safety of everyone involved, please follow the information and rules below:

Seniors/parents will meet at 1 p.m. on the west side parking area of DakPak so we can line you up alphabetically for parking.  (This will help us to organize the senior procession.) Seniors will get reserved parking with up to two vehicles for your immediate family. We are asking that you use cars instead of vans, pickups, or SUVs for the audience behind you.

There will be no reserved spaces for eighth grade parents and the public. Parking will start at 1 p.m., directed by Woonsocket Staff. Note: vans, pickups, and SUVs will be parked on the sides and in the back so cars are preferred.

Everyone will stay in his/her vehicles throughout the ceremony. Turn your vehicles off. (Tune in to 90.7 FM for the live broadcast.)

Seniors will be social distanced with chairs on stage while eighth graders will be the same, but sitting in front of the stage. (Eighth Graders and Seniors will stay in vehicles until we announce them before the ceremony starts.)

Graduation will run similar as in the past, with procession, speeches, diplomas, etc.(Programs will be available at graduation, and there will be an option to print one from our school website.)

It will be somewhat difficult for everyone to see so there will be two photographers (Jordan VonEye, Paula Linke) and a videographer (Armando Rodriguez) allowed outside of their vehicles. Pictures and the video will be posted for everyone on social media.

After the ceremony, senior vehicles will leave the parking lot first. They will be led by the Woonsocket Fire Department with sirens through town to let our community know we have new Woonsocket Alumni!

The senior slide show and the graduation ceremony will be broadcasted on social media.

There will be a senior graduate drop off (cards/gifts) at the Woonsocket Community Center from 7:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Friday, May 15.

There will be a “Cruise Night” around town with seniors and teachers on Friday, May 15 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join the fun and support our graduating seniors.

We hope everyone can come out and support this year’s graduates.
