On Tuesday, Jan. 12, the SCW basketball teams hosted Kimball/White Lake for a doubleheader in Woonsocket. The Wildkats proved to be strong opponents as all four games played that night were close to the end.
The junior varsity teams started with the girls playing first. They played a tight game, but the Lady Blackhawks couldn’t overtake the young Wildkats, and they suffered a close loss with a final score of 30-36.
The SCW junior varsity boys fought hard through their game, as well, but they came through with a victory and a close score of SCW 45, KWL 41.
The varsity games were up next, starting with the girls’ game. SCW’s ladies worked hard to pull off a win but couldn’t make it to the end and suffered another defeat in a close game and a final score of 36-48.
The SCW boys’ varsity squad won a tough battle with a pretty equal team in the KWL boys.
On Thursday, Jan. 14, the Iroquois/Doland boys came to Woonsocket for a pickup game for both boys’ teams. It was a great night for the Blackhawks with them winning both the JV and varsity games. The junior varsity won with a final score of 35-25.
The varsity boys had to hustle through another close game, but the Blackhawks found enough to dig deep and finish with their third win for the season and a final score of 49-40.
The boys and girls both started 281 Conference Tournament action on Friday and Saturday last week and continued into this week. The girls faced Wolsey-Wessington in Wolsey on Monday night and the boys hosted SBA in Forestburg on Tuesday night. The girls’ final game of the tournament is tonight (Thursday), and the boys’ will be Friday night. The location depends on whether they won or lost their games earlier this week. The boys then go to Madison on Saturday to take on Freeman for the Dakota State University Classic. Next week, they host Hanson at Sanborn Central for another doubleheader.
