On Wednesday, Feb. 16, members of the Sanborn Central and the Woonsocket Bands traveled to Chamberlain to participate in the Instrumental Solo and Ensemble Contest. Superior solos received a medal and superior ensembles received a pin in recognition of their achievements.

The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Lady Blackhawks wrapped up their regular season at home last week and clinched the 281 Conference.

On Monday, Feb. 14, the Lady Blackhawks hosted the James Valley Christian Lady Vikings. The junior varsity girls took the court first and easily dealt with JVC with a final score SCW 38 and JVC 15.

When the Lady Blackhawks’ varsity team played the Lady Vikings, they were met with fierce competition and a close game that went back and forth for four quarters and required an overtime to determine the winner. After a heated battle, the Lady Blackhawks were victorious with a final score, SCW 51 and JVC 48.

On Thursday, Feb. 17, the Lady Blackhawks played their final game of the regular season against the Mitchell Christian Lady Golden Eagles. The junior varsity finished their season strong defeating the Lady Golden Eagles with a score SCW 32 and MC 12.

The Lady Blackhawks’ varsity team also handled the Mitchell Christian Lady Golden Eagles with little difficulty, winning the game 60-33.

The Lady Blackhawks kicked off post season play on Tuesday, Feb. 22 in Alexandria against the Hanson Beavers at 7 p.m.

On Monday, Feb. 14, the Blackhawks hosted a double header against the James Valley Christian Vikings in Forestburg. The junior varsity boys played the second game of the night, and couldn’t capitalize on the home-court advantage, ending the game with a loss to the Vikings, 28-52.

The final game of the night was the varsity boys’ game, and the Blackhawks struggled against a strong JVC team. The final score was SCW 39, JVC 55.

Things turned around for the Blackhawks on Thursday, Feb. 17, when they hosted the Golden Eagles from Mitchell Christian for a doubleheader at Sanborn Central. The JV boys found a way to make things work for them, and they defeated Mitchell Christian 43-28.

The varsity boys also found their groove and sent the Golden Eagles home with a varsity loss, as well. The final score was SCW 43, MC 38.

The boys’ teams will have their final game of the season on Friday, Feb. 25, against Wessington Springs in Wessington Springs. It is just a boys’ game so the games will start at 5:15 p.m. with junior high first. Then the boys will start their Region 5 Tournament on Tuesday, March 1.
