Sanborn County Commissioners met in a special meeting on Tuesday, June 13, at 5:00 p.m. at the Woonsocket Community Center for purposes of reviewing the proposed flood plain with County Landowners and with FEMA representatives present. Present were Steve Larson, Paul Larson, Gary Blindauer, and Duane Peterson.
FEMA REPRESENTATIVES
Prior to the meeting taking place, Director of Equalization, Penny Farris, had sent letters to landowners that had land that was possibly going into the new proposed flood plain map. Many community members were in attendance to discuss their land with the FEMA representatives.
The meeting was held in a manner of each landowner having a conversation specifically for FEMA Public Open House with FEMA representatives available to answer questions. Following the county landowners’ questions being answered, the present board members discussed different noticeable items to the FEMA representative, such as them not taking ditches that have been cleaned in account for the mapping, current states of how water goes through the county, and many other items. FEMA representatives will take the board’s expressed concerns and present the board with updated maps at a later date.
Next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at 9:00 a.m.
