The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks shut out Lead/Deadwood on Friday afternoon by a score of 20-0. Â
With four minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Blackhawks scored their first touchdown on a three-yard run by Carter Grohs. Early in the second quarter, the Blackhawks increased the lead to 12-0 on an 18-yard touchdown run by Clay Olinger. With under a minute remaining in the half, the Blackhawks scored again on a nine-yard touchdown pass from Cayden Slykhuis to Quinten Christensen. Slykhuis ran in the two-point conversion and the score was 20-0 at halftime.
To begin the third quarter, the Blackhawks put together a drive that took 10 minutes off the clock, but the drive ended inside the 20-yard line when the Blackhawks turned the ball over on downs. The defense was able to hold Lead/Deadwood out of the end zone for the remainder of the game. Â
Clay Olinger ran the ball for 98 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown. The defense was led by Clay Olinger and Phillip Hines with five tackles each. The defense held Lead-Deadwood to 62 yards of total offense and only four first downs. Â
