On Tuesday, Sept. 27, the Lady Blackhawks traveled to Highmore to take on the Highmore-Harrold Pirates. In following a pattern that has shown itself this season, the Lady Blackhawks started off strong, but lost steam as the sets continued, and they gave the game to the Pirates in four sets. Set scores were 25-22, 24-26, 14-25 and 23-25.
On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Lady Blackhawks hosted the Vikings from James Valley Christian in a very even matchup in Forestburg. Again, SCW started off incredibly strong, winning the first two sets with scores of 25-11 and 25-22. However, the Vikings wouldn’t give up, and they won the last three sets, taking home the win with scores of 23-25, 22-25 and 8-15.
Saturday, Oct. 1, brought the annual 281 Conference Tournament in Wolsey. For their first round, SCW battled the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots. It was a close contest with the match going to three sets, but the Lady Blackhawks couldn’t hold on, and they lost to the Patriots with set scores of 16-25, 25-14 and 22-25.
SCW’s second game of the tournament brought them up against the Highmore-Harrold Pirates for the second time in five days. The Lady Blackhawks made a valiant effort again but fell short, losing in two close sets with scores of 23-25 and 18-25.
The third and final round of the day found SCW playing Sunshine Bible Academy for the seventh-place match. The Lady Blackhawks had a strong finish to their busy week with a solid win and brought home seventh place. Set scores were 25-15 and 25-8.
The Lady Blackhawks had their next games on Tuesday in Woonsocket against Sunshine Bible Academy again. Their next match is tonight (Thursday) in Tripp against the Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks, with the junior high games starting at 4:30 p.m. and no C game. They then play Howard in Howard on Monday, Oct. 10, and they host a new team, the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks, on Tuesday, Oct. 11, in Woonsocket. It just continues to be a busy schedule for the volleyball girls as their regular season starts to wind down.
