On Tuesday, Sept. 19, the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Lady Blackhawks hosted the Wolsey-Wessington (WW) Lady Warbirds at Sanborn Central for their only game of the Homecoming week.
The Lady Warbirds proved to be a hard-hitting opponent. Only the seventh grade Lady Blackhawks won their match, winning both of their sets. The eighth grade SCW team played with heart but lost both of their sets against WW.
After losing the first set, the SCW C-team rebounded and won their second set, sending the match into another round to determine the winner. The two teams battled to the end with several long volleys, but the young Lady Blackhawks came up short, losing the third set and the match, 1-2.
The junior varsity game was next, but once again, the Lady Warbirds were too tough, and the SCW junior varsity lost both sets, 6-25 and 16-25.
The varsity Lady Blackhawks ended the evening of play with a disappointing loss in three sets to the Lady Warbirds with scores 11-25, 14-25 and 16-25.
For their next competitions, the Lady Blackhawks hosted the Highmore/Harrold Pirates at Woonsocket on Tuesday, Sept. 26, then they travel to Huron to take on the James Valley Christian Vikings (tonight) Thursday, Sept. 28. On Saturday, Sept. 30, they find themselves in Huron once again to compete in the 281 Conference Tournament.
