Jeannine Vivian Fouberg, 91, of Mitchell, died Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 23, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 22, at the church, with a wake service beginning at 7 p.m.
Jeannine Fouberg was born March 6, 1933, to Allen and Caroline (Huber) Bauer in Esmond Township in South Dakota. She was raised on the family farm in Artesian, along with seven siblings. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in Mitchell in 1951 and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital.
Jeannine met her future husband, Ivan Fouberg, at a dance at Ruskin Park near Forestburg. They were united in marriage on July 2, 1955, at St. Anthony Catholic Parish in Artesian. They were married for 52 years until Ivan passed away in 2007. They resided on the family farm north of Forestburg. To this union, four children were born.
Jeannine enjoyed planting, tending and harvesting her flower and vegetable gardens, sewing, reading, dancing and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. She especially enjoyed British comedies, dramas, and mysteries. She was a member of the St. Wilfrid Alter Society and Catholic Daughters of America.
Jeannine is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Kathy) of Mitchell, Debra (Patty Kaul) of Rapid City, Elizabeth (Mike) Day of Mitchell, and Thomas of Forestburg; her sisters, Patricia (Ken) Barnette of Huron and Virginia Peterson of Huron; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jeannine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan; her brothers, Donald and Merrill; her sisters, Lorraine, Mary Charmaine and Shirley; and niece, Leah Jane Brewick.
