Since the spring semester started, FFA members have been very busy. It started with finalizing record books and filling out applications to apply for State degrees and Star awards.
Corrie Snedeker’s application went through districts and he will receive his State Degree at the State FFA Convention in April. Jonathan Linke competed for the State Star Greenhand and will be interviewed at the State FFA Convention.
National FFA week was Feb. 16-23. The Woonsocket FFA members celebrated with an agricultural hat day, a farm safety day for the elementary students, doughnut sales and Ag Olympics to end the week.
The high school students enjoyed Ag Olympics with some agricultural related activities including a sunflower seed spitting contest, a sack race, stick horse barrel racing, a corn shelling contest and tug of war to break the tie between the freshmen and sophomores. The freshmen won by one event and will receive a pizza party sponsored by the FFA chapter.
Everyone has also been busy preparing for Spring CDE’s. Woonsocket competed in the Redfield CDE’s and will go to DeSmet on March 12, Little International in Brookings on March 22, Miller on April 2 and the State Convention is April 14-16.
The Woonsocket and Sanborn Central FFA chapters will be hosting an animal nursery during the second week of April at the 4-H building.
