We interviewed Mrs. Whitney about the new air conditioning that was installed in Sanborn Central this summer, asking Mrs. Whitney why they did not put in air conditioning when the school was built 10 years ago. She said that they did not have the budget to put in air conditioning. Mrs. Whitney then remembered that she had a figure from when the school was built about how much it would have cost. Back in 2005 it would have cost about $300,000.
We also asked Mrs. Whitney why they considered putting air conditioning in now. She told us that because of the heat last year, she started to think about it a bit more.
When considering putting in the air conditioning she started visiting with Lincoln Feistner, who works at Central Electric, and began to talk about mini splits. These mini splits were also put in the Woonsocket School. “They look fairly small but they cool the rooms very nicely.” said Logun Feistner, a student of Sanborn Central.
Our school is paying off this air conditioning in three phases. Each phase is a $25,000 payment, so by the end the school has only paid $75,000 for the whole thing. The only thing that is not done is the gym and gym classrooms, the bathrooms, and hallways. Maybe these could be looked into as well within a few years?
