The sixth grade students in Mrs. Rose Delvaux’s class at Woonsocket traveled to Hot Springs on an overnight field trip.
After studying paleontology, the students were excited to tour the Mammoth Site. They also participated in an entrapment activity, which demonstrated why the mammoth remains were found there. While in Hot Springs, they also enjoyed the mineral springs of Evan’s Plunge.
The chaperones also drove the students through Custer State Park. They were able to see some of the wildlife such as buffalo, antelope and deer roaming in their natural habitat.
Students toured Rushmore Cave and were fascinated by the cave’s sites and facts. Following the tour, they were treated to a ride on the Soaring Eagle Zipline.
On the way home, they stopped for buffalo burgers at Wall Drug and Rick Hustead, owner of Wall Drug, treated them to the famous Wall Drug donuts.
Everyone had a wonderful time. It was certainly a trip to be remembered. The class would like to thank their chaperones, Mrs. Lynch, Jeff Opsahl, Tracy Burkel, Monica Baysinger and Brooke VonEye and all the people who helped them make this trip possible.
